In the United States, in Pennsylvania, there is a house shaped like a work boot. We are talking about the Haines Shoe House, a 1948 construction commissioned by shoe salesman Mahlon Haines. This could easily win the award for the ugliest house in the world. In Suwon, South Korea, there's the Mr. Toilet House, a gigantic building shaped like a toilet. Yes, you read that right: a 420-square-meter villa that looks just like a toilet.
You may be wondering how the idea for such a construction came about. The idea came from Mr. Sim Jae-Duck, a South Korean businessman and politician. When he served as mayor of Suwon in the 1990s, he led a campaign to improve the city's sanitation. In the early 2000s, he commissioned an architect to design his new residence and for some reason thought it right to pay homage to his political activism by designing it as a toilet. After his death, this monument to kitsch became a toilet museum, complete with sculptures and toilet-themed artwork scattered around.
