Do you think a small space for your new home is a limitation? We assure you that this is not the case: furnishing the kitchen and living room in a single space is possible, without sacrificing comfort and elegance!

We at Casavo know well how important practicality is if you live in an apartment. And an open space is a modern solution that enhances size: in just 25m² you can create a welcoming, informal, and bright environment that meets your tastes.

Let yourself be inspired by our advice: designing your home will become easier and more fun!

1. Study a customized project

When renovating an open space, improvising is always a risk.

It's not enough to choose the table or kitchen model you prefer; to create an environment in which to live everyday life well, you must be able to optimize and enhance the space

2. Single space? The key word is harmony.

To furnish the living room and dining room together, you need to leverage the power of harmony.

You can create a balance of style and coherence, from the choice of flooring to the materials and shapes of the furniture.

With just a few small adjustments, the apartment will appear spacious and organized. If you're looking for inspiration, try thinking about what strikes you most when you browse a home decor magazine: the play of colors is probably one of these factors. So start from there and choose a few shades to alternate. Many rely on neutral colors or white: there's nothing better for creating continuity between rooms.

3. Position the kitchen in the right spot

Creating a single space with a living room and kitchen also means that, in many cases, the stove will be visible. It's best not to place it in the entrance, because it could be impractical and even less elegant. First of all, therefore, study the structure of the spaces carefully. For example:

  • a corner kitchen adapts very well to a square floor plan;
  • a wall kitchen is perfect in a rectangular space, even better if on the wall furthest from the entrance door.

And why not consider an island layout?

4. The practicality of the kitchen island

Island yes or no? This is a question to think about carefully because, as fascinating as it is, it is not always feasible.

When you have plenty of space, the kitchen island guarantees a practical solution to increase the work surface. However, in small spaces, you may start to consider it a hindrance after a few months.

5. Divide the spaces

Another option is to clearly separate the spaces. Among the possible ideas to do so, some are truly comfortable and ingenious:

  • opt for glass windows that separate the kitchen and contain odors without limiting the brightness;
  • use a bookcase or vertical panels to avoid clear divisions and gain additional shelves;
  • use a false ceiling to play on the height of the rooms, and decorate it with spotlights for an effective result;
  • build a mezzanine to gain new spaces from very high ceilings.

You will get a kitchen and dining room together, furnished in such a way that they seem like two distinct environments. It could also be a good idea if you're trying to create a small home office!
